Rehearsal Sketches
INNER SUN Ronen Koresh World Premiere was poetic and demonstrated an interior/exterior relationship. I sat in on rehearsals and it made me wonder what is the inner sun. The most obvious sometimes is not so easily discovered; I found out at opening night that Koresh Danced to the beat of the heart, and the heat of the sun.
Middle Eastern Music and a celebratory feeling in the dance expressed real emotions of being together. The woman sitting next to me mentioned how happy Jewish engagements look like. The place and sounds from various instruments known to be used in Middle Eastern music heightened a sense of familial relationships. The transfer from body to soul was apparently working throughout the group of dancers.

In honor of David Cooper, a solo dance, performed by Melissa Rector, and a video of his repertoire shared the transformation which inspired Koresh dancers to carry his spirit with them.

The poetry of INNER SUN followed the facts about how great the human heart is, and how "sun sugar" was substance for the body and soul. The program events specified the titles of the dances: INNER SUN, GHOST PARTICLES, MAJESTY, IMAGINE, HEAT, ONE FOR THE MONEY AND TWO FOR THE JOY, FORGET ME NOT. These are some of the dances I took notice of when sketching the performance.
The Duet between Mellissa Rector and Micah Geyer was body in sync with soul. The movement handled the twisting feeling that happens when our own interests become intertwined with secondary thoughts. The power of equal partners and the force that pushed forward Rector or Geyer played with fate, and life's obstacles.The balance of body and passion for the purpose of seeing ourselves coexist in the world was a beautiful love story, but maybe more selfish than what you would expect from romantic novels. A romance with finding your inner sun struck me when the partnership leaves one or supports the other, but it stayed in a place where multiple personalities came from the duet. They combined each other to dance away from each other or danced back into each others path tells something about a force, like "sun sugar" that makes us do things that make us joyful.
