NEXT MOVE DANCE 2017-2018 was the season of WOW! It ended off with Nai Ni Chen Dance Company collaborating with The Ahn Trio.

The Taiwan Based dancers and Chamber music were moving into the sound and the music moved the dancers. The effect was a sensual touched experience through feeling that we had just witnessed a movement, a feeling, and an idea about the political atmosphere. It was very atmospheric and took me into a deeper meaning of David Bowie's SPACE ODDITY, CONCRETE STREAM.

The video installation and dance combination was amazing to visually piece together moving parts on stage.

The creativity of music, dance, and video has you thinking what is real and what is an illusion. Rather than taking away from reality it shows how it is all put together.

Ronald K Brown

The experience Ronald had in Cuba and the Caribbean gave the Prince Theater a colorful atmosphere. The sounds of the beach, or the collaboration with MALPASO DANCE COMPANY (SCROLL DOWN)
in 2016 was a nightlife with heat and the release of energy through the body.

In EVIDENCE, the dance was celebrating  the rhythm and the audience was encouraged to shout out with shared intensity. It was spiritual, and the program moved toward Pop culture, and back to more primitive expressions.

The last piece FOUR CORNERS expressed a time frame. It tied together the mash up of cultural studies, which Ronald K. Brown is excellent at in his choreography. He is based in Brooklyn and we can say people of New York share different rhythms.

CE QUE LE JOUR DOIT A LA NUIT

WHAT THE DAY OWES THE NIGHT

Herve Koubi explores his French-African roots in his choreography. Traditional Algerian dance uses flips and head stands, and Arabic poetry to meditate on the influences of Sub Saharan Africa.

Jessica Lange Dance

April 5-9 2017

Jessica Lang and Dancers are originally from Philadelphia, and they brought light and dark themes to the stage. The Georgia O'keeffe and Japanese ghost story draw on the translucent being of mother nature. The blue light and use of fabric brings the dancers together in a giant flower petal that makes O'keeffe's feminist popularity separate the two worlds: reality and history. The final dance is a military scene of marching, rolling, and crawling.

Malpaso Dance Company from Cuba

Why You Follow by Ronald K. Brown is about the dancers life and the club scene and outlet of dance in the themed clubs that bring out the otherness of human action. The lights are lit with blues and reds for sex and night life cover the bodies of the liquid dancers

24 Hours and a Dog by Osnel Delgado in collaboration with the dancers shows the street alive with dance and culture . the color and movements are specific to the vibrant expressive language Cuban markets and street venders are especially apart of -censorship and distance from the US has maneuvers that divert our attention and miss the simple beauties found in everyday life. Cuba is especially magical by dance art and energy.
