The Fringe Festival in Philadelphia brings out the best of the theater community. The energy is at a high level for the entire month. The Renegade Theater's adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm is a clashing of performance and real issues. The place is north Philly, in an urban farm, the actors show us around the farm and we learn about herbs and spices. The civil and moral differences between the characters in George Orwell's fairy story take present as animals on a farm. We are thrown into this world in order to react to the nonsense. The beasts of England, sing their national anthem "four legs good, two legs bad," but soon things change and pigs start standing up right. This is my interpretation of what happened before me when George Carter confronted the issue of racial discrimination.
